This Is Our Music features Ornette Coleman's iconic piano-less quartet with Don Cherry, Charlie Haden, and Ed Blackwell. The group pioneered a freer approach to jazz, breaking away from traditional structures of melody, harmony, and rhythm, emphasizing collective improvisation. After debuting with Something Else!!!! in 1958, the quartet evolved with The Shape of Jazz to Come and Change of the Century. This Is Our Music followed, with Blackwell replacing Billy Higgins on drums, marking the only recording of this classic lineup in a quartet format.
