'1978-81' features the recordings of a series of concerts across Prague by Amalgam, an acoustic avant-garde folk group led by Czech drummer and percussionist Vlastimil Marek. The recordings feature a number of guest appearances, ranging from renowned Czech alternative music musicians and ethnologists, including Pavel Richter (of Richter Band fame), Luboš Fidler and Alexandr Hajdovský, to a rare participation at that time of an international guest from Indian tabla player Mohan Lal. The recording on the A-side of the tape stems from Amalgam’s participation at the Prague Jazz Days festival held at Lucerna Hall in May 1978. The first half of the B-side was recorded at the Na Folimance sports hall a year later, whilst the second half was recorded at Baráčnická Rychta in 1981.
