Olé Coltrane (1961) was John Coltrane's ninth and final album for Atlantic Records, recorded just days after his first session for Impulse Records. The album features his working quintet, along with Art Davis and Freddie Hubbard, and includes Eric Dolphy, credited as "George Lane" due to contractual issues. The title track, Olé, reflects Coltrane’s growing interest in Spanish music, possibly inspired by Miles Davis' Sketches of Spain. The modal jazz approach and soprano saxophone work echo his success with My Favorite Things. The album also explores African influences, evident in Dahomey Dance and Aisha. This release includes the full LP, plus the additional track To Her Ladyship, which was left off the original record.
