Brazilian experimentalist Carla Boregas presents Pena Ao Mar, a hauntingly atmospheric album that imagines a synthetic wind orchestra. Known for her work in São Paulo’s post-punk scene with Rakta, Boregas explores deep listening electronics shaped by vocal layers, environmental recordings, and analog textures. Originally inspired by the idea of a collectively played wind instrument, the pandemic shifted her focus toward breath and its sonic implications.
The result is a richly textured, ghostly soundscape that evokes the kosmische realm of Ash Ra Tempel and modern composers like Éliane Radigue and Kali Malone. Tracks like “Sopro” play with chopped vocalizations and airy synths to create a percussive, unfamiliar language, while “Grafia Do Invisível” uses analog drones to emulate wind instruments. A poetic and immersive listen, Pena Ao Mar aligns with recent works by Wojciech Rusin, Debit, and Bloedneus & de Snuitkever, and is essential for fans of Lucrecia Dalt, Lucy Duncombe, and Sarah Davachi.
